This is a guide to the the letters Alert Readers sent me in 2007. Note that some letters are from past years.

A Christmas Poem: This is an example in verse. The dear lady who wrote it doesn't use iambic pentameter, but her heart is in the right place.

'Twas the Night: This author uses the well-loved poem as a starting place.

News Flash: The author sums up the family's year in a series of news headlines.

Fantasy Football: The author sums up the family members as Fantasy Football draft picks.

Letter From Opal: Bill M--- writes: My late wife hated bragging Christmas letters and those about characters dear to the lives of the writers but totally unknown to us. She kept me busy in November helping to handwrite individual short notes. I hated that, and recipients must have hated my handwriting. I finally persuaded her that we should let our pet cat dictate a Christmas letter. I have continued to use this device, usually to the amusement of our friends. Unfortunately, I confess and beg absolution for violation of many of your good bits of advice. . .

Raising the Bar: Steve A. writes: I wrote this last year based on combining some of the letters I found on your site and my family thought this was even funnier ... the bar is even higher now

This is one page of over four dozen devoted to Christmas news letters. The main Christmas News Letters page has links to more examples, plus some general guidelines and specific suggestions for writing Christmas news letters. If you have an example, either good or bad, that you'd like to share with the rest of the world, send it to me and I'll add it to these pages.
