These young ladies had performed at cultural fairs in Kuala Lumpur, the national capital. They offered to do a set of traditional Kelabit dances for me. When I accepted they put on their costumes, popped a cassette into the tape recorder, and put on a show. I was honored. We posed for a group photo. The two whose hands I'm holding are uneasy, because proper ladies do not hold hands in public with anyone except their husband. I got away with a lot by being a visitor.
