Kelabit Elder

Bario (BAH-ree-oh) was a cluster of seven longhouse on a plateau called the Kelabit Highlands, named after the people who lived there. (Keh-LAH-bits). I spent a very pleasant week there during the break between the 1971 and 1972 school years. This gentleman was going home. He and I were on the same flight from Miri to Bario. The holes in the tops of his ears hold leopard tusks.
